Pro Tip Tuesday: When to Recoat

Pro Tip Tuesday: When to Recoat

25th Mar 2025

It’s Dan, back with another Pro Tip Tuesday from Carbon Method!

Our guidelines for Carbon Coat suggest you apply a few additional layers every 6 to 12 months – but that’s just a general recommendation. What about your specific tool?

When you start to see grooves being worn into a coated tool surface, that’s a good indication that it's time to start thinking about recoating. As Carbon Coat wears, it breaks the seal from the coating, raw cast iron is exposed and runs the risk of corroding.

So take care of wear, recoat before rust starts to flare.

To find out all the best methods for recoating your Carbon Coated tools, check out the Maintenance and Frequently Asked Questions sections of the Carbon Coating Application Guide! It covers everything from prep to application and much, much more.
